Warning! The vehicles covered in this Manual are equipped with an additional SRS safety system, better known as an airbag. Before performing any work in the vicinity of the airbag or steering column assembly, be sure to turn off the system to avoid injury if it is accidentally triggered (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Disable the airbag (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the lower section of the center console trim (see Chapter Body).
3. Remove the stereo system (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).

4. Remove the screws securing the center console air duct deflector, remove the deflector and loosen the four screws securing the heater/air conditioner control panel assembly (see accompanying illustration).

5. Remove the control assembly and disconnect its wiring connector. Disconnect the air mix control cable from the control lever (see accompanying illustration).
6. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
7. Start the engine and check that the heating and air conditioning systems are functioning properly.
Adjustment
Control cable for mixing the air supplied to the passenger compartment
Civic Models
1. To adjust the drive cable, disconnect it from the heater valve actuator lever in the engine compartment. Disconnect the cable from the air mixing lever of the control assembly under the instrument panel in the passenger compartment.
2. Move the temperature control lever to the maximum cooling position (MAX COOL), then gently pull the cable sheath and close the damper, making sure that all slack in the cable is taken up.
3. While holding the air mix control lever fully depressed, snap the drive cable into the retainer clip.
4. In the engine compartment, move the valve actuator lever to the fully closed position and connect the cable. Without releasing the lever, take up the slack in the cable by pulling on its sheath, then install the locking clamp.
Integra Models
1. Release the drive cable from the control lever lock clamp.
2. Move the temperature control lever to the maximum heat intensity position (MAX HEAT), then turn the air mix control lever and connect the cable.
3. Pull the cable sheath back from the tip, taking up all the slack in the cable, then secure the cable with the clamp.
Heater valve drive cable
1. Disconnect the cable from the valve lever in the engine compartment. Disconnect the air mix control cable from the control lever under the instrument panel.
2. Move the temperature control lever to the maximum heating intensity position (MAX HEAT), turn the handle toward the cable and secure the latter with a clamp. Pressing the cable tip against the stop, snap the air mixing control cable into the clamp.
3. In the engine compartment, move the valve actuator lever to the fully closed position and connect the cable. Without releasing the lever, take up the slack in the cable by pulling on its sheath, then install the locking clamp.
