Removal and installation

Note: The hood panel is quite heavy, so you may want to have an assistant help you.

1. Cover the fenders with special pads or just old blankets to protect them from damage during the process of removing the hood.

1. Cover the fenders with special pads or just…

2. Use a marker or scriber to trace the heads of the hinge bolts to ensure that the hood is properly secured during assembly (see accompanying illustration).

3. Disconnect all cables and wires that interfere with removing the hood.

4. Ask an assistant to hold the hood and unscrew the bolts that secure the hinge strips to it. Remove the adjusting washers (if any are provided) and immediately put them back on their bolts, which should be folded in an organized manner to ensure that they are installed exactly in their original places during assembly.

5. Remove the hood.

6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing the old hood in place with the correct location of the mounting bolts and adjusting washers, there should be no problems with its alignment in the engine compartment opening. If the hood has been replaced, it is necessary to adjust its position.

Adjustment

1. The position of the hood in the engine compartment opening is adjusted by moving the hinge strips to the appropriate side after loosening their fasteners.

2. To determine the amount of offset, trace the hinge strips with a marker.

3. Loosen the fasteners and move the hinges in the required direction (make the adjustments slowly, in several stages, moving the loop strips a little at a time). Retighten the bolts, lower the hood and check that it is correctly positioned in the opening.

3. Loosen the fasteners and move the hinges in…

4. If necessary, the position can be adjusted (in vertical and horizontal planes) hood latch assembly on the radiator support plate - the hood should close tightly and drop flush with the fender surfaces. To adjust the latch, trace the heads of the latch assembly mounting bolts with a marker or scriber, then loosen the bolts and move the latch in the desired direction (see accompanying illustration). After completing the adjustment, tighten the mounting bolts securely.

4. If necessary, the position can be adjusted (in…

5. Finally, adjust the position of the bonnet rubber cushions on the radiator support panel (see accompanying illustration), ensuring that the hood is flush with the fenders when closed.

6. The assembly of the hood lock latch should be periodically (simultaneously with the hinges - see. Maintenance of car hinges and locks) be lubricated with lithium-based grease to prevent seizure and rapid wear.
