Removal and installation
Note. The hood panel has a decent weight, so you should enlist the support of an assistant.
1. Cover the wings with special pads or just old blankets to protect them from damage during the dismantling of the hood.
2. Circle the heads of the hinge bolts with a marker or scriber to ensure that the hood is properly fastened during assembly (see accompanying illustration).
3. Disconnect all cables and wires that interfere with the removal of the hood.
4. Ask the assistant to hold a cowl and turn out bolts of fastening to it of hinge levels. Remove shims (if any) and immediately put them back on your bolts, which should be folded in an organized manner to ensure that they are installed exactly in their original places during assembly.
5. Remove the hood.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When replacing the old hood with the correct location of the mounting bolts and shims, there should be no problems with its alignment in the opening of the engine compartment. If the hood has been replaced, its position must be adjusted.
Adjustment
1. The position of the hood in the opening of the engine compartment is adjusted by shifting the hinge bars to the appropriate side after loosening their fasteners.
2. To determine the amount of offset, circle the straps of the loops with a marker.
3. Loosen fasteners and slide the hinges in the desired direction (carry out the adjustment slowly, in several steps, shifting the straps of the loops a little at each approach). Re-tighten the bolts, lower the hood and check that it is correctly positioned in the opening.
4. If necessary, the position can be adjusted (in vertical and horizontal planes) assembling the hood latch latch on the radiator base plate - the hood must close tightly and fall flush with the surfaces of the wings. To adjust the lock, circle the heads of the latch assembly mounting bolts with a marker or scriber, then loosen the bolts and move the latch in the desired direction (see accompanying illustration). After completing the adjustment, firmly tighten the fixing bolts.
5. Finally, adjust the position of the hood rubber pads on the radiator support panel (see accompanying illustration), ensuring that the hood in the closed position is flush with the wings.
6. Assembly of the hood lock latch should be periodically (simultaneously with the loops - see. Servicing car hinges and locks) be lubricated with lithium-based grease to prevent jamming and rapid wear.
