Note:
- Adjust the timing belt tension on a cold engine.
- The tensioner is spring loaded and tightens the belt automatically after the next adjustment is completed.
- Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise when viewed from the pulley side. Clockwise rotation may result in incorrect belt tension adjustment.
- Before adjusting the belt tension, check the timing belt.
1. Disconnect the breather hose, then remove the air cleaner housing.
2. Remove the cylinder head cover.
When installing the cylinder head cover, see item. "Installation".
3. Remove the top cover.
4. Turn the crankshaft five to six revolutions to ensure the belt is in place.
5. Set the piston of cylinder No.1 to TDC.
6. Loosen the adjusting bolt by 180°.
7. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise three teeth on the camshaft pulley.
8. Tighten the adjusting bolt.
9. After checking, loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt, then tighten it again with a torque of 20 Nm (2.0 kgf/m) and turn it by 90°.
