Diagnostic trouble code indication (DTC)
1. Connect the shorted SCS connector to the service connector on the passenger side tilt panel.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (]I), but do not start the engine.
Note: Do not press the brake pedal when turning the ignition switch on.
3. Record the sequence of flashes of the ABS indicator lamp. The frequency of flashing indicates the code (DTC).
4. Turn off the ignition switch (OFF) and remove the shorted SCS connector.
Note: Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will illuminate after the engine has started if the SCS connector remains connected.
5. Perform DTC clear.
Condition for DTC indication
- The car is stopped.
- SCS connector is connected before the ignition switch is turned ON (II).
- The brake pedal is not pressed.
- The shorted SCS connector is not disconnected during service.
The DTC indication clears and the ABS control unit performs the programmed function if at least one of the following conditions is satisfied:
- The car is not stopped.
- The ABS control unit receives a normal signal from the diagnostic tester.
- The SCS connector is disconnected during service.
- When the ignition switch is turned ON (II), the ABS indicator lights up to check the lamp. Don't treat this as DTC.
- The ABS control unit can memorize all DTCs.
- A new DTC is not stored when the ABS control unit has already stored the same DTC.
- If the DTC is not stored, the ABS indicator lamp remains on.
Clear DTC (erasure)
1. Connect the shorted SCS connector to the diagnostic connector in the passenger side hatch.
2. Press the brake pedal.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), while holding down the brake pedal, but do not start the engine. The ABS indicator light will go off after two seconds.
4. After the indicator lamp goes out, release the brake pedal. The indicator lamp will light up after four seconds.
5. After the indicator lamp lights up, press the brake pedal again. The indicator lamp will go out again after four seconds, (brake pedal pressed).
6. After the indicator lamp goes out, release the brake pedal again,
7. After four seconds, the indicator lamp lights up twice at an interval of 0.3 seconds and the DTC is cleared.
8. Confirm the DTC indication and check that the DTC is cleared.
Note: Always follow these steps. If you disconnect the SCS short connector and/or the brake pedal operates as indicated by the indicator lamp, the DTC is not cleared.
Condition for clearing DTC
- The car is stopped.
- Shorted SCS connector connected before ignition switch is turned ON (II).
- Brake pedal pressed before ignition switch is turned ON (II).
- The shorted SCS connector is not disconnected during service.
DTC clearing is interrupted and the ABS control unit performs the programmed function if at least one of the following conditions is satisfied.
- The car is not stopped.
- Shorted SCS connector is disconnected during service.
- The ABS control unit receives a normal signal from the ABS diagnostic tester.
- The brake pedal does not operate as indicated by the indicator lamp.
- DTC clearing is complete.
Symptom-detail diagram
- *1. If a system failure occurs as determined by DTC 54 and/or 81, the ABS control unit does not detect the problem.
- *2 If a system failure occurs as determined by DTC 54,81 and/or 11-18, the ABS control unit does not detect the problem.
- *3 If DTC 11-18 is detected while driving, the indicator lamp remains illuminated until confirmation that a problem does not exist is performed by checking the wheel sensor after the ignition switch is turned ON.
