Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) indication
1. Connect the shorted SCS connector to the service connector on the passenger side fold-down panel.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON(]I), but do not start the engine.
Note: Do not press the brake pedal when turning on the ignition switch.
3. Record the flashing sequence of the ABS indicator lamp. The frequency of the flashing indicates the code (DTC).
4. Turn off the ignition switch (OFF) and remove the shorted SCS connector.
Note: The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will remain illuminated after the engine is started if the SCS connector remains connected.
5. Perform DTC clear.
Condition for DTC indication
- The car is stopped.
- SCS connector is connected before ignition switch is turned ON(II).
- The brake pedal is not pressed.
- Shorted SCS connector not disconnected during servicing.
The DTC indication clears and the ABS control unit performs the programmed function if at least one of the following conditions is met:
- The car is not stopped.
- The ABS control unit receives a normal signal from the diagnostic tester.
- SCS connector disconnected during servicing.

- When the ignition switch is turned ON(II), the ABS indicator comes on to check the lamp. Do not regard this as a DTC.
- The ABS control unit can store all DTCs.
- A new DTC is not learned when the ABS control unit has already learned the same DTC.
- If the DTC is not stored, the ABS indicator light remains on.
Clear DTC (erase)
1. Connect the shorted SCS connector to the diagnostic connector in the passenger side fascia panel.
2. Press the brake pedal.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON(II) while holding the brake pedal, but do not start the engine. The ABS indicator lamp will go out after two seconds.
4. After the indicator lamp goes out, release the brake pedal. The indicator lamp will light up after four seconds.
5. After the indicator lamp lights up, press the brake pedal again. The indicator lamp will go out again after four seconds, (the brake pedal is pressed).
6. After the indicator lamp goes out, release the brake pedal again,
7. After four seconds, the indicator lamp lights twice at 0.3 second intervals and the DTC is cleared.
8. Confirm the DTC indication and verify that the DTC has cleared.
Note: Always perform these steps. If you disconnect the SCS short connector and/or the brake pedal operation is as indicated by the indicator lamp, the DTC is not cleared.
Condition for clearing DTC
- The car is stopped.
- The shorted SCS connector is connected before the ignition switch is turned ON(II).
- The brake pedal is depressed before the ignition switch is turned ON (II).
- Shorted SCS connector not disconnected during servicing.
DTC clearing is interrupted and the ABS control unit performs the programmed function if at least one of the following conditions is met.
- The car is not stopped.
- Shorted SCS connector disconnected during servicing.
- The ABS control unit receives a normal signal from the ABS diagnostic tester.
- The brake pedal does not operate as indicated by the indicator lamp.
- DTC clearing is complete.

Symptom-detail diagram
- *1. If the system malfunction occurs as determined by DTC 54 and/or 81, the ABS control unit does not detect a malfunction.
- *2 If a system malfunction occurs as determined by DTC 54,81 and/or 11-18, the ABS control unit does not detect a malfunction.
- *3 If DTC 11-18 is detected while driving, the indicator lamp remains illuminated until confirmation that a malfunction does not exist is performed by checking the wheel sensor after the ignition switch is turned to ON.
