2. Re-check the contact surface of the shaft journal for scratches and burrs that could damage the sealing lip of the stuffing box.
3. Remove the old stuffing box from the casing with hammer blows. Note the depth of the seal in the casing.
4. Clean the landing surface of the casing, lubricate it with engine oil. The gland should be pressed immediately over the entire surface, so the use of a hammer is not allowed. If there is no press at hand, you can mount the stuffing box in a vise by laying smooth wooden planks between the jaws and the stuffing box. The tree must be thick enough to evenly distribute the force.
Note: on models starting from 1988, press the stuffing box to a depth of 0.2-0.5 mm from the edge of the casing. The absence of a recess is unacceptable.
5. Lubricate the seal lip with engine oil. Install a new casing gasket and lubricate it with sealant.
6. Tighten the bolts ¼ turn until the rear seal housing is fully and securely secured.
