Shock Absorbers (4WD Models 1984-1987) — Removal and Installation (Honda Civic 3)

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on stands.

2. Place the jack under the bridge beam and lift it until the jack supports the entire weight of the beam.

3. Remove the interior trim panels to gain access to the shock absorber mounting nuts.

4. Remove the protective cap and, holding the shock absorber rod with a hex key, unscrew the mounting nuts.

5. Remove the lower mount and remove the shock absorber.

6. Check the shock absorber. Slowly insert the shock absorber rod into the housing: it should enter without jerking or extraneous noise. Pull the shock absorber rod out and push it in sharply (stroke 5-10 cm) - there should be sufficient resistance to movement. And finally, check for leaks and wear of the rod.

7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the threaded connections with the force specified in the specification.
