Note: Wear protective gloves.
If the tailgate lock does not open when you pull the tailgate handle or use the remote release, remove the service hatch A on the lower door trim panel, then turn the emergency lever B clockwise as shown.
1. Remove the lower trim panel from the tailgate.
2. Disconnect the actuator power connector A and remove the bolts.
3. Pull out the tailgate lock A, disconnect the lock switch connector B, and then remove the lock.

4. Install the lock in the reverse order of removal, observing the following: make sure the connectors are connected correctly.
Make sure the tailgate opens freely and closes securely.
