Rear gearbox (Honda Civic 7)

Checking the oil level and changing it

The procedures for checking the level and changing the oil in the rear axle are described in the chapter "Maintenance and general check and adjustment procedures".

Removal

1. Jack up the car.

2. Drain the oil from the rear gearbox (see chapter "Maintenance and general check and adjustment procedures").

3. Apply marks (C) to the flanges of the propeller shaft No.2 (A) and the rear gearbox (B).



4. Loosen the bolts (D) and disconnect the propeller shaft from the rear axle.

5. Jack up the rear gearbox.

6. Loosen the bolts and remove the right and left rear gearbox support brackets. Remove the damper (only models with manual transmission).



7. Remove the filter (A).





8. Loosen the bolts and remove the washers (B).

9. Lower the rear gearbox slightly and disconnect the ventilation tube (A).



10. While lowering the rear gearbox, disconnect the drive shafts from the gearbox.

11. Loosen the bolts and remove the support (B) of the rear gearbox (A).

Installation

1. Install the support (B) onto the rear gearbox (A) and tighten the bolts.



Tightening torque: 69 Nm



2. Install the rear gearbox on the jack.

3. Install new snap rings (A) onto the drive shafts. While lifting the rear axle, install the drive shafts.



4. Connect the ventilation tube (B).

5. Install the rear gearbox. Install the washers (A) and tighten the bolts (B).

Tightening torque 49 — Nm



6. Install the filter (C).



7. Install the right and left rear gearbox support brackets and tighten the bolts. Install the damper.

Tightening torque 54 — Nm



8. Align the marks on the flanges of the propeller shaft No.2 (A) and the rear gearbox (B) and tighten the bolts (C).

Tightening torque 32 — Nm



9. Fill the rear axle with oil (see chapter "Maintenance and general checking and adjustment procedures").
