Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!

2. Jack up the front of the car and place it on supports. Disconnect the wiring from the l-probe (two connectors on models D16Y5 and D16Y7). Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold (see accompanying illustration). If the pipe fastener is difficult to loosen, first moisten it with a penetrating compound.

3. Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold (see accompanying illustration). It is also advisable to pre-soak the fasteners with a penetrating compound.

4. Remove the mounting nuts (see accompanying illustration) and separate the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
Note: On D16Y8 models, be sure to remove the lower mounting bracket bolts located near the manifold mounting flange.
Installation
1. Discard the old gasket, then scrape off any fragments from the mating surfaces of the exhaust manifold and cylinder head. Wipe the surfaces with a rag soaked in acetone.
2. After replacing the gasket, install the manifold in its original place and secure it with nuts. Moving in the direction from the center outward, tighten the fasteners with the required force (see Specifications).
3. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling.
4. Start the engine and check it for signs of exhaust gas leaks through the joints of the exhaust manifold with the cylinder head and the exhaust downpipe.
