Valve seats — installation (Honda Civic 5)

1. Insert the valves into the valve guides, coat the valve stems with engine oil before inserting.

Caution: Check that the valves move up and down evenly.

2. Install the thrust washers on the cylinder head.

3. Install the oil seal using a special tool.

Note: The exhaust and inlet valve stem seals are not interchangeable.

Install the valve spring and valve spring retainer, then install the valve spring compressor. Compress the spring and install the keepers.

Caution: Position the end of the valve spring with the coils close to the cylinder head.

5. Lightly tap the end of each valve stem two or three times with a plastic hammer to seat the crackers.

Caution: Do not apply too much force to avoid bending the valve stem.
