Valve guides
Inspection
Valve guides should be cleaned as described above and inspected, checking for valve stem diameter and stem-to-guide clearance. In general, if the engine passes oil through the guides (assuming the valve stem seals are in order) and the valve stem diameter is within the normal range, this means that the guides are worn and need to be replaced.
Valve guides that are worn or slightly deformed may in some cases be rolled on rather than replaced. Knurling is a process in which the metal inside a valve guide bore is moved and lifted (forming a very thin hatching crosswise or spiral), thereby reducing the clearance.
Removal and installation
Replacing the valve guide on all Accords and Preludes requires heating the cylinder head to 150°C, then removing the valve guide from the head with a hammer and precision drift. If you don't want to burn an oiled cylinder head in an oven, take the head to a machine shop and have it replaced by a mechanic to have the guides replaced.
