Index/Inspection
Warning
- Never use an air hose or dry brush to clean brake components.
- Use a vacuum cleaner to prevent brake dust from entering your respiratory tract.
- Contaminated brake pads and brakes will reduce stopping ability.
- Block the front wheels before jacking up the rear of the vehicle.
1. Block the front wheels, slightly loosen the rear wheel nuts, secure the rear of the machine on safe stands, then remove the rear wheels.
2. Release the parking brake and remove the rear brake drum.
Inspection
1. Check the wheel cylinder for leaks.
2. Check the brake linings for cracking, gloss, wear or contamination.
3. Measure the thickness of the brake lining.
- Brake lining thickness:
- For drum inner diameter 180 mm:
- Standard: 4.5 mm
- For drum inner diameter 200 mm:
- Standard: 4.0 mm
- Operational value: 2.0mm
Note: The measurement does not include the thickness of the brake pads.
4. If the thickness of the brake lining is less than the service value, replace the brake pad assembly.
5. Check whether the bearings in the hub assembly operate smoothly.
6. Measure the inner diameter of the brake drum using a caliper.
- Drum inner diameter 200 mm:
- Standard: 199.9-200.0 mm
- Operational value: 201.0mm
- Drum inner diameter 180 mm:
- Standard: 179.9-181.
- Operational value: 181 mm
7. If the inner diameter of the brake drum is greater than the service value, replace the brake drum.
8. Check the brake drum for grooves, scratches and cracks.
