1. The layout of the parking brake components is shown in the accompanying illustration. Chock the front wheels, loosen the rear wheel nuts, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it.

2. On models equipped with rear drum brakes, remove the brake drum (see Replacing the shoes of the rear wheel drum brake mechanisms).

3. Loosen the adjusting nut on the equalizer assembly (see Adjusting the parking brake). Remove the intermediate clamps from the cable sheath (see illustration above).

4. On models with rear drum brakes, remove the shoe assembly (see Replacing the shoes of the rear wheel drum brake mechanisms) and disconnect the parking brake drive cable from the actuator lever on the rear shoe (see illustration). Press the locking tabs on the cable housing holder and pull the cable housing assembly out of the brake shield.



5. On models with rear disc brakes, to disconnect the cable from the actuator lever, it is necessary to remove the clamp and remove the pin securing the split pin (see illustration for paragraph 4). The cable sheath is additionally secured in the bracket with a spring clamp.

6. Unbolt the brackets of the intermediate fasteners securing the parking brake cable to the bottom of the vehicle. Remove the cable, remembering its route.

Note: You may also need to remove the exhaust rear heat shield mounting bolts.


7. If necessary, remove the second drive cable in a similar manner.

8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Do not forget to adjust the parking brake drive.
