1. The gearshift drive components are shown in the accompanying illustration above. Unscrew and remove the gearshift lever knob. Remove the center console (see Chapter Body). Remove the upper lever dust boot and the lower dust boot (see accompanying illustration).

3. To disconnect the torque rod of the gearshift lever from the gearbox housing, simply unscrew the mounting bolt (see accompanying illustration).

4. To disconnect the shift lever from the transmission, push the dust cover forward, remove the clamp and knock out the spring pin with a punch (see accompanying illustration).

Note: During assembly, the spring pin must be replaced without fail.

5. To disconnect the rear end of the drive rod from the shift lever, loosen the mounting bolt and nut (see accompanying illustration).



6. Loosen the two nuts securing the ball joint bracket to the lower part of the torque rod bracket (see previous illustration), remove the washers, then remove the holder, lower arm boot, ball joint seat and shift lever with reaction rod.

7. Check the condition of the rubber bushing of the support for the front end of the torque rod of the lever; if cracks, tears or signs of wear are detected, replace it.

8. Replace the shift lever mounting assembly O-rings.

9. Reassemble in reverse order. Before installation, lubricate the sealing rings and rubber bushings with silicone grease. Do not forget to replace the spring pin securing the shift rod to the gearbox. Tighten all fasteners to the required torque.

10. Check the proper functioning of the gear shift lever.
