1. Components of the shift actuator are shown in the accompanying illustration above. Loosen and remove the shift knob. Remove the center console (see chapter Body). Remove the upper arm dust cover and lower boot (see accompanying illustration).
2. Jack up the car and put it on stands.
3. To disconnect the shift lever torque rod from the manual transmission case, simply unscrew the mounting bolt (see accompanying illustration).
4. To disconnect the shift drive lever to the transmission, press the dust cover forward, remove the clamp and knock out the spring pin with a punch (see accompanying illustration).
Note. During assembly, the spring pin must be replaced without fail.
5. To disconnect the rear end of the drive rod from the shift lever, give the mounting bolt with a nut (see accompanying illustration).
6. Loosen the two nuts securing the ball joint holder to the bottom of the torque arm bracket (see previous illustration), remove the washers, then remove the holder, lower lever boot, ball seat, and shift lever with torque rod.
7. Check the condition of the rubber bushing of the torque arm front end mounting support, replace if cracks, tears, or signs of wear are found.
8. Replace the o-rings of the shift lever fastener assembly.
9. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order. Lubricate O-rings and rubber bushings with silicone grease before installation. Don't forget to replace the spring pin that secures the shift linkage to the gearbox. Tighten all fasteners to the required torque.
10. Check up serviceability of functioning of the lever of a gear change.
