Warning! The car models covered in this manual are equipped with an additional security system (SRS). Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
Gearshift cables
Note. Even in the event of a break in only one of the drive cables, they are replaced as a complete set (select and shift cables are not supplied individually).
1. Turn away the plastic handle and remove it from the gear lever.
2. Remove the console assembly (see chapter Body).
3. Remove the cotter pin, remove the washer and disconnect the drive cable from the shift rod, then give the self-locking nut and disconnect the second cable from the base of the gear lever.
4. Remove the lock washers and release the cables from the shift lever mounting bracket.
5. Open the hood and locate the front ends of the drive cables). Disconnect cables from actuating levers of a choice and a gear change (the first is located on top of the cover of the switching mechanism, the second - the assembly). Remove the lock washers and release the cables from the support brackets.
6. Walk along the cables back to the bulkhead of the engine compartment and release from the last bushing.
7. Pull the cables out.
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When connecting the front ends of the cables, make sure that the plastic washer is installed between the end of the cable and the steel washer (gear selection cable) and between the steel washer and cotter pin (shift cable).
Gear lever
1. Unscrew and remove the plastic handle from the gear lever.
2. Remove the console assembly (see chapter Body).
3. Disconnect the shift and select cables from the base of the lever (see paragraphs 1 to 7 above).
4. Turn out bolts of fastening of an assembly bracket of the basis of the lever.
5. Remove shift lever assembly.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
