Removal, installation and adjustment of the tailgate (Honda Civic 6)

Note: The tailgate is quite heavy, so it may be a good idea to have an assistant assist you.

Removal and installation

1. Open the tailgate and securely lock it in the upper position.



2. Remove the upper decorative door frame trim (see accompanying illustration) and disconnect the connectors of the electrical wiring connected to the door.

3. Ask an assistant to hold the door open and detach both stops from it. With a sharp tug, release the stops from the hinges on the car body.



4. Remove the nuts securing the hinge strips to the door (see accompanying illustration). Remove the door from the car.

5. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Adjustment

1. Adjustment is made by loosening the hinge plate mounting bolts and appropriately shifting the door in the body opening. The door can be considered installed correctly when its edges are parallel to the vertical and lower sides of the opening.



2. If necessary, also adjust the door lock striker to ensure proper operation of the locking mechanism (see accompanying illustration).



3. Finally, adjust the door closing density by adjusting the height of the rubber stop pads (see accompanying illustration). When closed, the door plane should be flush with the surfaces of the surrounding body panels.
