Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Jack up the front of the car and place it on jack stands. Loosen the mounting bracket and disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold (see accompanying illustration). If the pipe fastener does not give in, pre-moisten it with a penetrating compound.
3. Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold (see accompanying illustration). It is also advisable to pre-impregnate the fasteners with a penetrating compound.
4. Give fixing nuts (see accompanying illustration) and separate the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
Installation
1. Discard the old gasket, then scrape off its fragments from the mating surfaces of the exhaust manifold and cylinder head. Wipe the surfaces with a cloth soaked in acetone.
2. After replacing the gasket, install the manifold in its regular place and secure it with nuts. Working from the center outward, diagonally tighten the fasteners to the required torque (see Specifications).
3. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling.
4. Start the engine and check it for signs of exhaust gas leaks through the joints between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head and downpipe.
