Rear Differential (1988 and later models) — Removal and Installation (Honda Civic 3)

Removal

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it on stands. Block the front wheels.

2. Drain the oil from the differential housing (see Chapter 1).

3. Remove the drive axles (see Chapter 8A).

4. Mark the relative positions of the driveshaft flanges and the differential. Disconnect the fasteners and remove the rear end of the driveshaft, hang it to the side.

5. Unscrew the bolts securing the differential to the crossmember.

6. Place a jack under the differential cup.

7. Remove the differential mounting bolts from the upper bracket and carefully lower the differential to the ground.

8. Disconnect the bracket from the differential.

9. Refer further repairs to qualified personnel.

Installation

10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Fill with oil (see Chapter 1).
