Starter Solenoid — Removal and Installation (Honda Civic 3)

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the starter (see Section 21).

3. Disconnect the thick wire from the solenoid.

4. Loosen the solenoid mounting bolts and remove it.

5. With the solenoid removed, check the operation of the overrunning clutch. It should move easily along the shaft. If the starter pinion is worn or damaged, replace the pinion-overrunning clutch assembly. If the starter pinion teeth are damaged, carefully inspect the flywheel ring gear.

6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
