Warning! Most of the models covered in this manual are equipped with SRS. Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
1. The ECM/PCM control module is located in the vehicle interior under the instrument panel, behind the front passenger door upper sill trim.
Attention! Be aware that static electricity can damage the processor and cause it to fail. Before touching the assembly, ground yourself to body ground, use special anti-static pads to store the module.
2. Disable SRS (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the equipment!
3. Unscrew the carpet, exposing the assembly of the lower panel and part of the floor on the right under the instrument panel (see chapter Body).
4. Remove the passenger door sill panel to gain access to the ECM/PCM.
5. Give the nuts securing the control module to your bracket (see accompanying illustration).
6. Disconnect the ECM/PCM electrical connectors.
Attention! To avoid damage to the processor, the ignition must be turned off when disconnecting / connecting the wiring (key in OFF position).
7. Carefully remove the ECM/PCM.
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
