Warning! Most models covered in this manual are equipped with the SRS system. Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
1. The ECM/PCM control module is located in the passenger compartment under the instrument panel, behind the front passenger door upper sill trim.
Warning! Remember that static electricity can damage or cause the processor to fail. Before touching the assembly, ground yourself to the body ground, use special antistatic pads to store the module.
2. Turn off SRS (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the system before disconnecting the battery!
3. Remove the carpet, exposing the lower panel assembly and part of the floor on the right side under the instrument panel (see Chapter Body).
4. Remove the passenger door upper sill trim panel to gain access to the ECM/PCM.

5. Loosen the nuts that secure the control module to its bracket (see accompanying illustration).
6. Disconnect the ECM/PCM electrical connectors.
Attention! To avoid damage to the processor, the ignition must be off when disconnecting/connecting the wiring (key in OFF position).
7. Carefully remove the ECM/PCM.
8. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
