Warning: Do not smoke while performing this operation. Keep open flames away from the workplace.
1. Attach the tachometer.
2. Start the engine. Maintain rpm at 3000 without engine load (gearbox in neutral, automatic transmission selector in position [P] or [N]) until the electric fan turns on, then set the engine to idle.
3. Check idle speed and adjust if necessary.
4. Warm up the CO measuring device in accordance with the instructions for the device.
5. Check the CO level with the headlights, ventilation, rear window defroster, electric fan, and air conditioning turned off.
CO level:
- For models with three-way catalytic converter: maximum 0.1%
- For cars without a three-way catalytic converter: 1.0+/-1.0%
If existing measurements cannot be accepted:
For vehicles without a three-way catalytic converter, adjust the idle mixture by turning the idle mixture screw.
If it is impossible to bring the CO reading back to normal with this operation, check the engine adjustments.
