Check the condition of the exhaust system, from the engine to the muffler. Perform the check on a cold engine, at least 1 hour after driving. To check, it is best to lift the car to ensure unobstructed access to all parts of the system. Check the exhaust pipes and connections for signs of exhaust leaks, severe corrosion and mechanical damage. Make sure that all brackets and supports of the exhaust pipes are securely fastened and intact (photo). It is recommended to check the integrity of the pipes and muffler by trying to pierce them with a sharp tool. Some vehicles may have heat shields installed that need to be removed to inspect the exhaust system.

Repair

The vehicles in question use both flange connections of the exhaust system parts and sliding connections with a clamp. Before disassembling such fasteners, always pre-lubricate them with penetrating fluid and wait sufficient time. Always loosen the nuts without applying too much force, especially on the intake manifold. If the stud breaks, the entire manifold assembly will have to be replaced. If it is not possible to disassemble the unit, it is recommended to saw it off or cut it with an oxyacetylene torch. It should be taken into account that when dismantling exhaust pipes, in which sections are pulled together with ladders, the ladders usually break off.
