Installation of cylinder head valve, spring, valve seals (Honda Civic 8)

1. Lubricate the valve stems with new engine oil. Install the valves into the valve guides.

2. Make sure the valves move up and down freely.

3. Install the spring spacers on the cylinder head.





4. Install new valve stem seals A using valve stem seal installer B.

Note: Exhaust valve stem seals C have a black spring D, and inlet valve stem seals E have a white spring F; they are not interchangeable.

Note: Use the 5.5mm side.

5. Install the valve spring and valve retainer. Install the end of the valve spring with closely spaced coils on the cylinder head side.

6. Install the valve spring compressor. Compress the spring and install the valve retaining clips.

7. Remove the valve spring compressor.

8. Lightly tap each valve stem with a plastic hammer A two or three times to ensure proper seating of the valve and retainers. Tap the valve stem only along its axis to avoid bending the valve.
