Note. On 4-cylinder models with manual transmission, a starter made by Nippondenso with a non-removable traction relay is used. In the event of the last failure, the entire assembly must be replaced. The description below is for Mitsuba starters used on V6 models.
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Remove the starter (see Section Removal and installation of a starter).
3. Disconnect the large wire connecting the traction relay to the starter motor terminal.
4. Remove the long bolts securing the end cap to the gearbox housing. Remove the anchor assembly housing.
5. Turn out fixing screws and separate a casing of a reducer from a forward cover of assembly.
6. Turn out fixing screws from a casing of a reducer and remove the traction relay.
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Before assembly, lubricate the drive lever and the traction relay plunger with assembly grease.
