2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (A) from the intake manifold regulator (IMRC) actuator (B) and connect a vacuum pump/gauge (C) to the hose.

Is there a vacuum?
Yes Proceed to p. 10.
No Proceed to p. 3.
3. Check the vacuum hose between the IMRC actuator and the IMRC solenoid valve.
Is the vacuum hose OK?
Yes Proceed to p. 4.
No Repair blockage or vacuum leak between IMRC actuator and IMRC solenoid valve.
4. Disconnect the lower vacuum hose (A) from the IMRC solenoid valve (B) and connect a vacuum pump/gauge (C) to the hose.

Is there a vacuum?
Yes Proceed to p. 5.
No Repair blockage or vacuum leak between intake manifold and IMRC solenoid valve.
5. Reconnect the lower vacuum hose to the IMRC solenoid valve and connect the vacuum pump/gauge (C) to the vacuum hose (from the drive side).
6. Disconnect the 2-pin connector from the IMRC solenoid valve.
Is there a vacuum?
Yes Proceed to p. 7.
No Replace the IMRC solenoid valve.
7. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
8. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
9. Disconnect the 24-pin connector B from the ECM/PCM.
10. Check if there is continuity between terminal No. 2 of the IMRC solenoid valve 2-pin connector and ground.

Is there conductivity?
Yes Repair short circuit in wire between ECM/PCM (B22) and IMRC solenoid valve.
No Substitute a known good ECM/PCM and retest. If the symptom/indication disappears, replace the original ECM/PCM.
11. Increase the speed to 5000 rpm (min⁻¹).
12. Check if there is a vacuum.
Is there a vacuum?
Yes Proceed to p. 13.
No Proceed to p. 23.
13. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
14. Disconnect the 2-pin connector from the IMRC solenoid valve.
15. Start the engine.
16. Increase the speed to 5000 rpm (min⁻¹), then check the voltage between terminals No. 1 and No. 2 of the IMRC solenoid valve 2-pin connector.

Is there battery voltage?
Yes Replace the solenoid valve (MRC.
No Proceed to p. 17.
17. Measure the voltage between terminal No. 1 of the IMRC solenoid valve 2-pin connector and ground.

Is there battery voltage?
Yes Proceed to p. 18.
No Check fuse #4 ACG (10A) in the under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, repair the open in the wire between the IMRC solenoid valve and ACG fuse No. 4 (10A).
18. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
19. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
20. Disconnect 24-pin connector B from the ECM/PCM.
21. Short-circuit contact No. 2 of the 2-pin connector of the IMRC solenoid valve to ground using a jumper wire.

22. Check for continuity between ECM/PCM connector terminal No. 22 and ground.

Is there conductivity?
Yes Substitute a known good ECM/PCM and retest. If the symptom/indication disappears, replace the original ECM/PCM.
No Repair open in wire between ECM/PCM (B22) and IMRC solenoid valve.
23. Connect the vacuum pump/gauge (A) to the IMRC actuator (B), then apply vacuum.

Does the IMRC actuator hold vacuum?
Yes Proceed to p. 24.
No Replace the IMRC valve assembly.
24. Insert the cotter pin (A) into the IMRC drive shaft (B).

25. Apply vacuum to the IMRC actuator, then check if the cotter pin moves.
Does the cotter pin move?
Yes IMRC system is OK.
No Replace the IMRC valve assembly.
