Note:
  • Do not adjust the throttle stop screw. It is produced at the manufacturing plant.
  • If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) comes on, check for a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

1. Check the operation of the throttle cable with the engine not running. The cable must move without binding or sticking.
  • If the cable works properly, proceed to step. 2.
  • If the cable is snagging or sticking, check the cable and its routing. If the cable is faulty, reroute or replace it and make adjustments, then proceed to step. 2.

2. Move the throttle lever by hand and see if the throttle valve and/or shaft are loose or tight.
  • If the throttle shaft has excessive play or sticks in the fully closed or fully open position, replace the throttle body.
  • If the throttle valve and shaft are OK, proceed to step. 3.

3. Connect the Honda PGM scanner or tester to the data link connector (DLC).

4. Turn the ignition key to the ON (II) position.

5. Check the throttle position using a scanner. The reading should be around 10% with the throttle fully closed and around 90% with the throttle fully open.
  • If the throttle position is normal, the throttle body is OK.
  • If the throttle position is not correct, replace the throttle body.
