Note: Do not expose the timing chain to magnetic fields.
1. Set the crankshaft to TDC and align the TDC mark (A) on the crankshaft sprocket with the arrow (B) on the cylinder block.

2. Set the camshafts to TDC. The stamped mark (A) marked with an arrow on the electronic variable valve timing (VTC) actuator and the mark (B) on the exhaust camshaft sprocket must be on top. align the TDC (C) marks on the VTC actuator and the exhaust camshaft sprocket.

3. Place the timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the colored link (A) with the stamped mark (B) on the crankshaft sprocket.

Position the timing chain onto the VTC drive and exhaust camshaft sprocket, aligning the stamped marks (A) with the two colored links (B).

5. Install the timing chain guide (A) and tensioner lever (B).

6. Install the automatic tensioner.

7. Install the tensioner in the timing chain.

8. Remove the pin from the automatic tensioner.

9. Check if the chain cover seal is damaged. if the seal is damaged, replace it.
10. Remove old sealant from the mating surfaces of the chain cover, bolts and bolt holes.
11. Clean and dry the contact surfaces of the chain cover.
12. Apply sealant, P/N 08C70-K0234M, 08C70-K0334M or 08C70-X0331S, evenly to the contact surface of the cylinder block under the chain cover and to the internal threads of the holes.
13. Apply sealant to the contact areas (A) on the top of the cylinder block under the chain cover.
14. Apply sealant, P/N 08C70-K0234M or 08C70-X0331S, evenly to the oil pan contact surface under the chain cover and to the internal threads of the holes.

Note: Do not install components if more than 5 minutes have passed since applying the sealant. Instead, reapply the sealant, removing any traces of the old one.
15. Insert a new O-ring (A) into the chain cover. place the edge of the chain cover (B) on the edge of the oil pan (C), then install the chain cover on the cylinder block (D).

Note: When installing the chain cover, do not allow its bottom surface to slide on the contact surface of the oil pan.
16. Install the side engine mount bracket.

17. Install the upper bracket (A), then tighten the bolts/nuts in the sequence indicated by the numbers in the figure.

18. Connect the ground cable (B).
19. Install the VTC oil solenoid valve.
20. Connect connector (A) to the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) and connector (B) to the VTC oil solenoid valve sensor.

21. Place the pulley on the crankshaft.
22. Install the cover on the cylinder head.
23. Put on the drive belt.
24. Install the mud deflector.
