2. Remove the automatic tensioner.
3. Loosen the valve rocker arm adjusting screws.
4. Remove the camshaft bracket.
5. Remove the intake camshaft.
6. Make sure that the electronic variable valve timing (VTC) actuator is locked when the VTC actuator is rotated clockwise and counterclockwise. If the VTC actuator does not lock, replace the VTC actuator.
7. Seal the advance holes (A) and retard holes (B) in camshaft journal No. 1 with adhesive tape,

8, Punch a hole in the tape above one of the timing holes.
9. Apply air to the advance hole to release the lock.

10. Make sure the VTC actuator moves smoothly. If the VTC actuator does not move smoothly, replace the VTC actuator.
