Parking brake details: 1. split washer; 2. Spring washer; 3. Axis; 4. Lever | Drum brake parts (the regulator is inserted inside the upper spring): 1. Regulator lever; 2. Upper spring; 3. Lever drive pads; 4. Regulator spring |
Examination
If cracks, contamination or a decrease in thickness below the norm are found, the drum brake pads are replaced as a set per axle., Thickness of new pads:
- 3.9-4.5mm (CR-V)
- 4.5mm (Odyssey V6)
Limit thickness 2.0 mm (CR-V and Odyssey V6).
Withdrawal
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and remove the drum.
2. Between the piston of the cylinder and the shoe, lay a ruler, squeeze the brake shield in the middle of the shoe with pliers.
3. Squeeze the end of the spring with thin round pliers and disconnect from the block.
4. Remove the bottom spring.
5. While holding the pad retainer finger by hand, push the bracket away from you, rotate 90°and remove from the pin.
6. Remove the front shoe, regulator and other parts. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the shoe lever.
7. Clamp the pad in a vise, knock out the split washer and remove the lever of the manual drive of the pad (photo).
8. Check the condition of the wheel cylinder.
Installation
9. Clean the lever, lubricate the point of contact with the axle and rearrange to a new block.
To fix the lever on the block, clamp the ends of the split washer.
10. Lubricate the following parts with refractory grease:
- threads of the brake regulator and the rubbing part of the stop,
- all protruding rubbing parts of the steel base of the shoe and brake shield,
- slots in the piston of the wheel cylinder and in the lower support plate of the shoe.
11. Put the parking brake cable on the lever and install the block on the shield, replacing the pin and the spring clip of the latch.
12. Lay a ruler between the cylinder piston and the shoe, squeeze the brake shield in the middle of the shoe with pliers.
13. Install the regulator with springs on the front shoe, inserting the front shoe on the brake shield, hook the lower spring on the rear shoe. Secure the front shoe with a spring clip (Replace pin and spring clip).
14. Put the second end of the upper spring on the shoe. Remove the laid ruler from under the block.

19. Check up adjustment of a manual brake and liquid level in a tank.
Lubricate the brake parts with rubber grease in the following places: 1. Adjuster screw; 2. Upper spring; 3, 6. Axis; 4. Regulator spring; 5. Lubricate the sliding surfaces with rubber grease | Apply refractory grease to the following parts of the brake at the indicated locations: 1. The ends of the pads in contact with the piston of the cylinder; 2. The ends of the pads (from the side of the brake shield and drum) |
