Before adjusting the parking brake on CR-V and 6-cylinder Odyssey models, check the condition of the shoes and drums. Typical signs that the parking brake needs adjustment include an increase in pedal height (or an increase in pedal force) when the brake pedal is pressed 3 times after releasing the parking brake lever. On 4-cylinder Odysseys, the parking brake is not linked to the service brake shoes and is adjusted separately.

1. Check the travel of the parking brake lever, which should be:
  • on CR-V models 2-6 clicks with a lever force of 196 N
  • on 4-cylinder Odyssey 4-8 clicks with 196 N of lever force
  • on 6-cylinder Odyssey 3-5 clicks with 294 N of force on the lever

2. Release the parking brake lever and raise the rear of the vehicle.

3. On CR-V and 4-cylinder Odyssey models, remove the screw covers, remove the screws, and remove the control arm trim. Adjust the cable tension by turning the nut. Make sure that the shoes do not touch the drum when the lever is fully released.

4. On 6-cylinder Odysseys, press the pedal down 3 clicks, tighten the pedal nut until the pads contact the drums. Then release the parking brake lever and make sure that the shoes do not touch the drums and the wheels rotate freely. The lever should move 3-5 clicks with a lever force of 294 N.

5. Lower the vehicle.
