Disassembly
1. Remove the tension pins by depressing the detent springs and turning them.
2. Lower the brake shoe assembly and remove the lower return spring.
Note: Be careful not to damage the dust cover on the slave cylinder.
3. Remove the brake shoe assembly.
4. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.
5. Remove the upper return spring, lever and spring and separate the brake pads.
6. Remove the wave washer, parking brake lever and axle from the brake shoe by removing the U-clip.
Assembly
1. Apply brake cylinder lubricant (P/N: 08733-B020R) or an equivalent rubber lubricant on the sliding surface of the axle and insert the axle into the shoe.
2. Install the parking brake lever and wave washer on the axle and secure with a U-clip.
Note: To prevent the axle from coming off the brake shoe, crimp the U-clamp securely.
3. Connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever.
4. Apply lubricant to each sliding surface.
- Apply brake cylinder lubricant (P/N: 08733-B020E) or an equivalent rubber lubricant on the sliding surface as shown.
- Apply Molykote 44MA grease to the ends of the brake pads and the opposite edges of the pads as shown in the illustration in the top right column.
5. Clean the threaded sections of the earrings A and B. Apply lubricant to the threads of the earrings. Shorten the earring by turning the adjuster bolt.
6. Hook the self-adjusting spring first on the self-adjusting lever, then on the brake shoe.
7. Install earrings A and B and the upper return spring, taking into account the direction of installation. Do not damage the dust covers of the working cylinders.
8. Install the lower return spring.
9. Install tension pins and detent springs.
10. Install the brake drum.
11. If the working cylinder is removed, bleed the brake system (see above) and check for leaks in the brake line fittings, and tighten if necessary.
12. Depress the brake pedal several times to bring the self-adjusting brake into position.
13. Adjust parking brake (see above).
