2. Remove the gearbox.
3. Remove the oil pan.
4. Remove the oil pump.
5. Remove the cylinder head.
6. Remove the mud deflectors.
7. Remove the 8mm bolts.
8. Unscrew the bearing cap bolts. To avoid warping, loosen the bolts sequentially 1/3 turn at a time; repeat the operation until all bolts are loosened.
9. Remove the lower block and bearings. Place the bearings in order.
10. Remove the bearings/connecting rod caps. Place all caps/bearings in order.
11. Remove the crankshaft from the engine, being careful not to damage the journals.
12. Remove the upper bearing shells from the connecting rods and set them aside along with the caps.
13. If you feel a ring of metal or hard carbon deposits on the top of the cylinders, remove it with a reamer (A). Follow the reamer manufacturer's instructions. If the ring lip is not removed, it can damage the pistons when they are pushed out.
14. Push out the pistons (B) with the wooden handle of the hammer (A).
15. Reinstall the lower block and bearings into the engine in the proper order.
16. After removing the connecting rod and piston groups, reinstall the connecting rod bearings and their caps.
17. To avoid confusion during reassembly, mark each connecting rod and piston group according to its cylinder number.
The number on the connecting rod does not indicate its location in the engine, but the diameter of the large head of the connecting rod.
