1. Set the gearshift lever to neutral position.
2. Warm up the engine. When the engine has cooled down, close the heater valve and increase the engine speed to 3000 rpm until the cooling system fan turns on for the first time. Stop the engine. Make sure all consumers are turned off.
3. Connect the tachometer.
4. On CR-V and 4-cylinder Odyssey models, disconnect the plug from the idle air valve (IAC valves).
5. On 1998-00 Odyssey models, disconnect the plug from the canister purge valve (EVAP valves).
6. If the engine stalls, start it and bring the speed up to 1000 rpm, then slowly release the pedal and let the engine idle.
7. Read the idle speed, which should be as follows.
- 430-530 rpm on CR-V,
- 500-600 rpm on 1995-97 Odyssey,
- 650-750 rpm on a 1998 Odyssey,
- 680-780 rpm on 1999-00 Odyssey.
8. The speed is adjusted by the screw in the upper left part of the intake side of the throttle body. Do not turn the screw more than 1/4 turn.
9. On CR-V and 4-cylinder Odyssey models, turn off the ignition, connect the plug to the IAC valve, remove the 7.5 Amp reverse light/receiver fuse, and wait 10 seconds before inserting it (this is necessary to reset and restart the engine processor unit).
10. On 1998-00 Odyssey models, turn on the air conditioner and heater (to maximum heating mode) and after 1 minute of idling, connect the plug to the tank purge valve.
11. On CR-V and 4-cylinder Odyssey models, check ignition timing and adjust if necessary.
