Removal

1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Remove the cylinder head cover and upper camshaft belt cover.

3. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC of the compression stroke, aligning the marks. Violation of the alignment of marks during disassembly is not permitted.

4. Remove the ignition distributor (Chapter 2).

5. Loosen the camshaft retainer bolts evenly and gradually, in a diagonal order, making 2 turns at a time. Don't take out the bolts.

6. Remove the rollers with rocker arms. Do not remove the bolts from the camshaft holders. If it is necessary to replace the rocker arms and shafts, the bolts can be removed after first marking the location of the parts on the shaft.

Installation

7. Make sure that the piston of the 1st cylinder is set to TDC of the compression stroke (the camshaft key must be facing up).

8. Lubricate the camshaft journals and cams; replace the seal if necessary.

9. Assemble the rocker arms with the shafts and camshaft bearing journal covers.

10. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the separating surfaces of the first and sixth covers of both camshafts (shaded areas in the photo).

11. Install the rocker arms complete with shafts and holders and tighten the bolts. Evenly, making 2 turns per step, tighten the M8 bolts with a torque of 22 Nm and the M6 bolts with a torque of 12 Nm in the order shown in the photo.

12. Adjust the clearances in the valve drive mechanism.

13. Install the remaining removed parts. Check the ignition timing and adjust if necessary.
