When dismantling the cylinder head, follow the description of the procedures for removing various parts, components and assemblies set out in the relevant sections of this Chapter (for example, camshaft belt, belt cover, etc.).
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery from ground.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove the air filter and air duct.
4. Remove the drive belts.
5. Decompress the fuel system.
6. Mark and disconnect the throttle actuator, wires, and hoses on the cylinder head that prevent the cylinder head from being removed.
7. Disconnect the high-voltage wires, remove the ignition distributor.
8. Place a jack under the engine and lift the engine slightly.
9. Remove the cylinder head cover.
10. Remove the camshaft belt, camshaft sprocket and rear belt cover.
11. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the manifold.
12. Unscrew the intake manifold bolts and remove the cooling system bypass hose.
13. Remove the camshafts.
14. Loosen the cylinder head bolts in the reverse order to that shown in the photo, making 1/3 of a turn at a time. Remove the cylinder head.
Installation
15. Clean the head and the split surface of the cylinder block. Clean the oil nozzle and install it into the cylinder block. Check that the control pins are installed correctly.
16. Position the new head gasket with the identification marks facing up.
17. Lubricate the bolt holes and head bolt heads.
18. Install the head and tighten the bolts in the following order.
Tighten the bolts to a torque of 29 Nm in the sequence shown (photo).

Tighten the bolts to 85 Nm.
19. Install the manifold and tighten the bolts to 24 Nm.
20. Install the front exhaust pipe.
21. Install the camshafts.
22. Secure the camshafts with a punch by inserting it into the holes in the camshafts and into the hole in the holder of the first journals of the camshafts (in this case, set the camshafts to the position corresponding to the position of the piston of the 1st cylinder at TDC of the compression stroke).
23. Install the keys and sprockets on the camshafts, tighten the bolts to a torque of 37 Nm.
24. Install the camshaft belt.
25. Adjust the valve clearances, install the cylinder head cover.
26. Install the remaining removed parts, connect the rods, wires and hoses, make the necessary adjustments.
