2. On right-hand drive vehicles: remove the air cleaner. Then remove the floor heat shield (A). Be careful not to damage the heater hoses.

3. Loosen the lock nut of the guide rack screw (A) using the special tool, then unscrew the guide rack screw (B).

4. Remove the old sealant from the rack guide screw and apply new sealant to the middle of the thread (C). Fit the rack guide screw onto the steering gear.

5. Tighten the guide rack screw (A) to a torque of 25 Nm (2.5 kgf·m), then loosen it.

6. Tighten the guide rack screw again to a torque of 6 Nm (0.6 kgf·m), then loosen it to the required angle.
Required angle: 20° max.
7. Secure the guide rack screw with a wrench and tighten the lock nut by hand until it is fully seated.
8. Place the special tool on the lock nut (B) and secure the guide rack screw (A) with the wrench. Tighten the lock nut 30° further using the special tool.

9. On right-hand drive vehicles: install a heat shield and air cleaner.
10. Check for unusual effort when turning the steering wheel from lock to lock.
11. Check the steering wheel play and the operation of the power steering.
