General information
The V6 Odyssey models are equipped with a distributorless ignition system. The ignition timing is adjusted automatically by the engine's PCM processor unit (Powertrain Control Module). In this system, the current in the primary circuit of the coil is interrupted (1 coil per cylinder is provided) is provided by an electronic module built into the ignition coil, under the influence of signals from the processor unit. The engine processor unit receives control pulses from the TDC sensors, cylinder position sensor, and absolute pressure sensor in the intake manifold (MAP sensor) and the knock sensor. Adjustment of the ignition system without a distributor is not provided.
Examination
If the ignition system fails, the sensors should be checked for serviceability (see Ch. 4), wiring and ignition coils. If all the instruments and ignition components are in good working order, then the failure is caused by a malfunction of the engine processor unit. If the ignition failure is caused by the failure of the most important devices or ignition instruments, the diagnostic system indicator lamp lights up on the instrument panel (the processor unit prioritizes faulty connections). In this case, you should read the diagnostic codes at a car service center and determine the faulty unit.
