Replacing the distributor cap and rotor
The cover of the distributor is screwed to the housing. With the ignition off, unscrew or remove the screws and remove the cover. Inspect the inside of the lid for cracks (breakdowns), traces of burning or wear on the wire leads. Replace cap if there is any sign of anything abnormal. Minor wear of the pins can be considered normal.
Remove the ignition block rotor by lifting it straight off the shaft. Prelude 1989-91 fuel injected cars use a screw to hold the rotor to the shaft; loosen or remove the screw before removing the rotor. Inspect the rotor for any signs of wear; Aligning or grinding the rotor is not recommended except in exceptional circumstances.
Before installation, align the rotor and shaft; both have flat sides - to ensure correct placement. Push the rotor onto the shaft. Install and tighten the screw if removed. Carefully install the insulation or seal and cover on the distributor; lightly tighten the screws.
Reluctance
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the distributor cap and rotor.
3. Use two small flat tools to remove the magnetic resistance from the shaft smoothly and evenly. Cover the distributor housing with a rag or cloth. Take care not to damage the stator or other components.
4. Position the magnetic resistance with serial number up. Install it by firmly pushing it into the distributor shaft.
5. Install the round key with its slot facing away from the distributor shaft.
Master winding
1. Remove the distributor cap, rotor and magnetic resistance.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the winding.
3. Remove the screw holding the winding; remove assembly.
4. Install in reverse order. Adjust the air gap if necessary.
Breaker module
The breaker module installed outside is removed directly. All work is carried out with the ignition off. Removal of the Toyo Denso breaker module mounted on the side of the distributor requires the removal of two bolts and harness clips. The breaker module is connected directly to the distributor. Lubricate the contacts of the module with silicone grease before installation.
The interrupter module, installed inside, as is done, for example, in Hitachi distributors, requires the removal of the distributor cover, rotor and magnetic resistance. The module can be removed after removing the retaining screws. Pay attention to the position of the retaining screws (but it's better to mark them!); they are made of diamagnetic material and must be installed in the original (original) position.
