If the crankshaft is already installed
1. Set the crankshaft to the HMT position for each cylinder.
2. Remove the caps from the connecting rods, then install the piston ring installer and make sure the bearing is securely fixed.
3. Position the arrow (A) so that it faces the engine timing chain.
4. Insert the piston into the cylinder and tap it with the wooden handle of the hammer (A). Continue to press the piston ring installer (B) from above to prevent the rings from spreading before they are in the cylinder.
5. Stop knocking when the piston ring installer is released and check the alignment of the connecting rod and crankpin before seating the piston in place.
6. Check the connecting rod bearing clearance using a Plastigage gauge.
7. Check the connecting rod bolts.
8. Apply engine oil to the bolt threads, then install the bearing caps. Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (2.0 kgf·m) + 90°.
If the crankshaft is not installed
1. Remove the connecting rod caps, install the piston ring installer and make sure the bearing is securely fixed.
2. Position the arrow (A) so that it faces the engine timing chain.
3. Insert the piston into the cylinder and tap it with the wooden handle of the hammer (A). Continue to press the piston ring installer (B) from above to prevent the rings from spreading before they are in the cylinder.
4. Set all pistons to TDC position.
