Note: To prevent the brakes from seizing, springs are placed on the brake pads. Be careful when you swing the caliper all the way up, as the spring may fly out.
2. Slightly tilt the caliper back so that the brake pads do not move and firmly grasp the pads with your fingers on both sides. Remove the springs (A) from the pads.
3. Fold the caliper up completely and remove the pads (A).
4. Remove the linings (B) from the pads.
5. Check the hose and finger boots for damage and wear.
6. Remove the shoe holders (A).
7. Clean the caliper thoroughly; remove rust and check for grooves or cracks.
8. Check the brake disc for damage or cracks.
9. Install the brake shoe holders.
10. Apply Dow Corning Molykote M77 grease to the back of the brake pads and to other areas indicated by the arrows.
Wipe off excess grease from the gaskets. Dirty brake discs and pads increase the braking distance. Avoid getting grease on the discs and pads.
11. Install brake pads and linings correctly. Install the pads with the wear indicators (C) facing inward.
When reusing brake pads, always install them in their original position to avoid loss of braking efficiency.
12. Press the piston (A) so that the caliper enters over the pads. Check the brake fluid level. If the reservoir is overfilled, brake fluid may overflow. Make sure the piston dust boot is in place to avoid damage when the caliper is tilted down.
13. Firmly grasp the pads with your fingers on both sides and insert the new springs (A) into the pads.
While holding the pads, slowly lower the caliper over the pads.
Note: Insert the ends of the springs securely into the mounting holes in the pads.
14. Fold the caliper (A) down without damaging the pin dust boots.
15. Insert the flange bolt (B) into the caliper and tighten it to the required torque.
16. Press the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work, then road test.
Note: Immediately after replacing the brake shoe assembly, more pedal travel may be required to engage the brake. After pressing the brake pedal several times, normal pedal travel will be restored.
17. After installation, check for leaks at the joints of the hoses and tubes or at the fittings and tighten if necessary.
