Checking idle speed.

Note:
  • Leave the IAC valve connected.
  • Before checking the idle speed, check the following:
    • Does the MIL light come on?.
    • Ignition timing angle
    • Spark plugs
    • Air purifier
    • PCV system

1. Disconnect the 2-pin connector from the Fuel Vapor Filter Purge valve (EVAP).

2. Connect the tachometer (A) to the test connector (B).

2. Connect the tachometer (A) to the test…

3. Start the engine. Maintain RPM at 3000 rpm (min⁻¹) without load (in Park or Neutral position), until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

4. Check idle speed without load: headlights, fan, rear window defroster, radiator fan and air conditioner do not work.

Idle speed should be:

MKP650±50 rpm (min⁻¹)
Automatic transmission650±50 rpm (min⁻¹) (in Park or Neutral position)

5. Let the engine run for one minute with the heater fan on (in HI position) and air conditioning, then check the idle speed.

Idle speed should be:

MKP700±50 rpm (min⁻¹)
Automatic transmission700±50 rpm (min⁻¹) (in Park or Neutral position)

Note: If the idle speed is abnormal, see table of malfunction symptoms.
