2. As shown in the figure below, a commercially available air pulse punch (A) adjusted to the diameter of the valve guide bushings can be used. In most cases, this operation can be performed using a special tool and a regular hammer.
3. Select new valve guides and cool them in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator for approximately one hour.
4. Heat the cylinder head evenly to 150°C using an electric hotplate or oven. Monitor the temperature with a kitchen thermometer. Do not heat the head to temperatures above 150°C; this may result in the valve seats becoming loose.
5. Using a drift and a pneumatic hammer, drive the valve guide from the camshaft side approximately 2mm towards the combustion chamber. This will remove some of the carbon deposits, making removal easier. Keep the air hammer strictly in line with the valve guide bushing to avoid damaging the drift.
6. Turn the head over and knock out the valve guide towards the head camshaft.
7. If the valve guide does not come out, drill it out with an 8mm drill bit, then try again. Only drill out the guides as a last resort, as if the guide breaks you could damage the cylinder head.
8. Remove new guides from the freezer one at a time as needed.
9. Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to the outside of the new valve guide. Press the guide into place from the camshaft side of the head; drive the guide (B) with the special tool to the specified installation depth (A). If all 16 guides need to be installed, it may be necessary to heat the head again.

10. Apply lubricating oil to both the reamer and the guide bushing.
11. Turn the reamer clockwise the entire length of the valve guide.
12. While removing the reamer from the guide bushing, continue to rotate the reamer clockwise.
13. Rinse the guide thoroughly with detergent and water and remove any residue.
14. Check the clearance using the valve. Make sure the valve moves freely in the intake and exhaust valve guides.
