Never "nursing" on one fill of engine oil longer than the period recommended by the car manufacturer (even if it's synthetic)! If your car is used in difficult conditions (urban cycle, frequent start-stop, dusty roads, long driving in low gears, etc.), change your engine oil twice as often as recommended by your car manufacturer! And don't forget to change the oil filter!
If it is very cold outside, do not apply the handbrake even briefly: the brake shoes may freeze to the drums and you will not be able to move.
