Replacing the power steering pump (Honda CR-V 2)

1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.

2. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.

3. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley.

4. Remove the mounting bolts (B) from the pump.

5. Cover the automatic tensioner, alternator and air conditioning compressor with several towels to prevent them from getting spilled. Disconnect the inlet (C) and outlet (D) hoses from the pump (E) and plug them. Do not spill liquid on the body or adjacent parts. Wipe up any spilled liquid immediately. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.

6. To prevent foreign particles from entering the pump, cover the hole in the pump with a piece of adhesive tape.

7. Connect the inlet and outlet hoses to the pump.

8. Install the pump on the bracket by tightening the mounting bolts, then tighten the pump fittings securely.

9. Install the drive belt (A).

When putting on the belt, please consider the following:


  • Make sure the belt is correctly positioned on the pulleys (B).
  • Do not allow liquid or grease to come into contact with the automatic tensioner, alternator, air conditioning compressor, drive belt or pulley surfaces. Remove any liquid or lubricant before putting on.

10. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque.

11. Fill the tank to the upper level mark.
