Replacing the ball joint boot (Honda CR-V 2)

1. Remove the cover. Check if there is a gap (A) between the ball joint and the steering knuckle. If there is a gap, replace the steering knuckle assembly. Do not press the ball joint back into the steering knuckle.

2. Pack the new boot and its edge (B) with fresh grease from the inside. Avoid getting grease on the boot-steering knuckle contact surfaces (C).



3. Wipe off the grease from the tapered area of the ball joint pin (D) and pack fresh grease into the base (E).

4. Place the boot on the ball joint pin, then squeeze it slightly and release the air from it. Do not allow dust, dirt or other foreign substances to enter the case.

5. Press the boot using the special tool until the bottom is seated evenly around the steering knuckle (A).



6. After installation, wipe off any grease on the exposed area of the ball joint pin.
