2. Remove the pads (A) and shoes (B).
3. Remove the brake shoe holders (A).
4. Clean the caliper thoroughly; remove rust and check for grooves or cracks.
5. Check the brake disc for damage or cracks.
6. Install the brake shoe holders.
7. Apply Dow Corning Molykote M77 grease to both sides of the linings (A), to the back of the brake pads (B) and to other areas indicated by the arrows. Wipe off excess grease from the gaskets. Dirty brake discs and pads increase the braking distance. Avoid getting grease on the discs and pads.
8. Install brake pads and linings correctly. Install the pads with the wear indicators (C) facing inward.
When reusing brake pads, always install them in their original position to avoid loss of braking efficiency.
9. Press the piston (A) so that the caliper enters over the pads. Check the brake fluid level. If the reservoir is overfilled, brake fluid may overflow. Make sure the piston dust boot is in place to avoid damage when installing the caliper.
10. Apply Dow Corning Molykote M77 grease to the piston lips (B) where they contact the inner brake shoe lining.
11. Install the brake caliper (C), insert the bolts (D) and tighten them to the specified torque while holding the pin (E). Be careful not to damage the pin dust boots.
12. Press the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work, then road test.
Note: Immediately after replacing the brake shoe assembly, more pedal travel may be required to engage the brake. After pressing the brake pedal several times, normal pedal travel will be restored.
13. After installation, check for leaks at the joints of the hoses and tubes or at the fittings and tighten if necessary.
