On the vehicles in question, the camshafts are installed in beds machined directly into the cylinder head. In case of wear or damage to the beds, the cylinder head is replaced.

Gas distribution mechanism (4-cylinder Odyssey): 1. Rocker arm; 2. Pulley; 3, 16. Rusks; 4, 15. Plate; 5, 14. Spring; 6, 13. Oil seal; 7. Thrust washer; 8. Guide bushing; 9. Back cover; 10, 11 Valves; 12. Cylinder head; 17. Camshaft; 18. Pin; 19. Lock nut

Removal



1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Mark and disconnect the high-voltage wires, remove the cylinder head cover and camshaft belt (see above).

3. Loosen the rocker arm locknuts and screws.

4. Remove the camshaft journal covers and take out both camshafts.

5. Remove the rocker arms and lay them out so that they can be installed in their original places during assembly.

Installation



When assembling, replace all gaskets and seals.

6. Check the condition of the beds in the cylinder head.

7. Lubricate the camshaft journals and cams with engine oil. Install the camshafts and tighten the camshaft journal cover bolts to 9.8 Nm.

8. Set the camshafts to the position corresponding to the position of the piston of the 1st cylinder at TDC of the compression stroke, insert a stud into the hole in the support of the 1st journal of the camshaft (or a 5mm drill) to fix the camshaft.

9. Install the keys and sprockets.

10. Install the belt.

11. Adjust the clearances in the valve drive mechanism.

12. Install all removed parts in reverse order.

Odyssey 4-cylinder engine



Removal



1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Remove the camshaft belt (see above).

3. Remove the shafts with rocker arms, do not remove the bolts from the camshaft holders.

4. Remove the camshaft and oil seal.

Installation



When assembling, replace all gaskets and seals.

5. Check the condition of the beds in the cylinder head.

6. Lubricate the camshaft journals and cams with engine oil. Install the camshaft with the key facing up.

7. Lubricate the new seal and press it in using a mandrel with a central guide.

8. Install the shafts with rocker arms, install the camshaft belt.

9. Install all removed parts in reverse order.

V6 Engine



Removal



1. Disconnect the battery from ground.



2. Remove the camshaft belt, intake manifold, cylinder head covers (see above).

3. Remove the shafts with rocker arms, do not remove the bolts from the camshaft holders.

4. Remove the camshaft sprockets.

5. Remove the thrust cover and take out the camshaft.

Installation



6. If deformation of the seal lips is detected, replace the seal.

7. Check the condition of the beds in the cylinder head.

8. Lubricate the camshaft journals and cams with engine oil. Install the camshafts in place.

9. Install the camshaft sprockets, tighten the bolt to 90 Nm.

10. Install the shafts with rocker arms, tighten the bolts to a torque of 24 Nm.

11. Install all removed parts in reverse order.
