2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature, set the air conditioning to maximum cooling intensity and turn on the fan at maximum speed. To avoid automatic shutdown of the system, open all the doors of the passenger compartment.
3. Have an assistant press the A/C (A/C) button and watch the front of the compressor. The clutch should make a distinct click and then the center of the clutch should begin to rotate. If this does not happen, stop the engine and disconnect the wiring from the A/C pressure switch. Short-circuit the terminals of the wiring harness connector with a paper clip. If the clutch now starts to operate normally, then there is excessive pressure in the system. Take the car to a specialized auto service workshop for more detailed diagnostics.
4. If the compressor clutch still does not operate as required, check the condition of the relevant fuses - remove fuse No.3 from the mounting block located on the left under the instrument panel, as well as fuse No.58 from the large block located in the engine compartment (on the rear bulkhead).
5. Also remove the compressor clutch relay (mounting block in the engine compartment) and check its proper functioning (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment). With the relay removed and the ignition off, make sure that there is battery voltage at the first relay socket (the terminal arrangement is the same as for the fan relay). With the ignition on, battery voltage should be present at socket 4.
6. With the engine running and the air conditioner on, use jumper wires to connect sockets 1 and 2 to the compressor clutch relay. When connected, the clutch should make a distinct click.
7. If the clutch still does not engage, turn the ignition off again, disconnect the wiring from the clutch, and using a long jumper wire and an ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminal 2 on the clutch relay plug and the compressor clutch connector socket. If there is no continuity, check for an open circuit between the mounting block and the clutch connector. If there is continuity, check for an open circuit between the mounting block and the PCM.
