1. The correct functioning of the compressor clutch is the key to the smooth operation of the air conditioning system.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature, switch the A/C to maximum cooling intensity and turn on the fan at maximum speed. To avoid automatic shutdown of the system, open all interior doors.
3. Have an assistant press the A/C button (K/V) and watch the front of the compressor. The clutch should make a distinct click, after which its central part will begin to rotate. If this does not happen, turn off the engine and disconnect the electrical wiring from the K / V pressure sensor-switch. Bridge the wiring harness connector terminals with a paper clip. If the clutch now starts to work normally, then there is an excessive increase or pressure in the system. Drive the car for more detailed diagnostics to a specialized car service workshop.
4. If the compressor clutch still does not work as required, check the condition of the relevant fuses, - remove the No. 3 fuse from the mounting block located on the left under the instrument panel, as well as the No. 58 fuse from the large block located in the engine compartment (on the rear bulkhead).
5. Also remove the compressor clutch relay (mounting block in the engine compartment) and check if it works properly (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment). With the relay removed and the ignition off, check for battery voltage at the first relay slot (the layout of the contact terminals is the same as for the fan relay). With the ignition on, battery voltage should be present at slot 4.
6. With the engine running and A/C switched on, use jumper wires to connect sockets 1 and 2 to the compressor clutch relay - at the moment of connection, the clutch should make a distinct click.
7. If the clutch still does not work, turn off the ignition again, disconnect the electrical wiring from the clutch and, using a long jumper wire and an ohmmeter, check for continuity between the contact terminal 2 on the clutch relay plug and the compressor clutch connector socket. If there is no continuity, check the circuit for an open in the area between the mounting block and the coupler connector. If there is continuity, check for an open circuit in the area between the mounting block and the PCM.
