Checking the starter overrunning clutch (Honda HR-V 1)

1. Move the freewheel on the shaft. Does it move freely? If not, replace it.



2. Spin the freewheel in both directions. Does it lock in one direction and spin freely in the opposite direction? If it does not lock in either direction, or locks in both directions, replace it.

3. If the starter pinion is worn or damaged, replace the overrunning clutch assembly; the gear is not supplied separately.

4. If the starter pinion teeth are damaged, check the condition of the torque converter ring gear.
