Filling the system
ABS uses 2 brake fluid reservoirs, one on the master cylinder and one on the modulator. IN each must maintain the minimum fluid level necessary for the correct functioning of the system.
Although the system does not need to be depressurized when adding fluid, reservoir caps and the surrounding area must be free of dirt before the cap is removed. Even insignificant the amount of dirt or foreign objects in the fluid can impair the performance of the ABS.
Use only DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid from an unopened container. Do not use other grades or types of brake fluid; Never reuse air-laden brake fluid that has been bled or drained from the system. Fill fluid only up to the inscription MAX or UPPER on the tank. Overfilling the tank can cause an overflow when testing the system or in operation. After filling, firmly place the cap on the tank.
Piping and Calipers
Brake pipes and calipers are bled in the usual way without any special procedures.
Make sure the master cylinder reservoir is full before bleeding and check the level frequently. The system must be bled in the correct sequence; Always bleed all 4 calipers. Each fluid drain screw must be tightened to 9 Nm.
Pumping sequence:
- Accord - left rear, right front, right rear and left front.
- Prelude - right rear, left front, left rear and right front.
Bleeding High Pressure Components
The modulator, battery, and power pack must be bled if any of their piping is removed or loosened during the repair, or if any component is replaced. Bleeding can ONLY be done using a Honda ABS tester and a special bleed screw T-wrench or equivalent. Do not use other methods or means to bleed high pressure components.
